My Mini Vacation

Lillian and Kristy's mini vacation to Salt Lake City, Utah. I haven't been up there during the winter time for 11 years. So it was really nice to be there during the holiday season, and we had to take advantage of it, just a little bit.
Lillian and I really enjoyed our little vacation, even though we were up in Utah for my grandma's funeral, we decided to make the best of it. Lillian has never seen, let alone play, with snow. So this was a totally new experience for her and she absolutely loved it. Here Uncle Scott had thrown a snowball at her and she is trying to get it.
The rest of these snow pictures are just of Lillian having a really fun time. Uncle Scott and Aunt Jen were showing how much fun playing in the snow can be. Scott was throwing snow at her and Aunt Jen was showing her how to blow it off your hands. Well Lillian had her own methods of playing in the snow.
She would walk around the snow putting her hands or her feet in the snow. When Uncle Scott would throw snowballs at her she would say, "no throw snow at me."

Yes, I know she should have had her coat on, but it wasn't actually that cold and she had been running around outside. And who can blame the poor kid, wouldn't you after sitting in the car for 12 hours. No it wasn't straight through we stopped in Saint George on Tuesday, and then Wednesday drove up the rest of the way and arrived in the early evening. The funeral was on Thursday, and then there was a luncheon afterwards at my Grandma's church. The ward there was really nice to do that for the family. Plus the food was delicious. Anyway these snow pictures are outside the church bldg. after the luncheon was over. There was a lot more snow there, then at our hotel plus it was cleaner.

Thursday evening we had to go and see Temple Square. I love this time of year and I haven't seen the temple grounds all decorated since 1997. It looks totally different then the rest of the year. My mom, Uncle Scott, Aunt Jen, Lillian and I (my cousin Billy joined us later but I forgot to get a picture of him), all went. We had a lovely time. It was cold but not too bad, Lillian was all bundled up with a couple of layers on plus the jacket. She had the best time. We had her little monkey leash on and she pulled whoever was holding it around.
I had been wanting a picture in front of some fall leaves forever, and just haven't found the time back at home or the trees. So when I saw this tree, I knew this was my chance. I wish Brandon could have been with us, but he was back in Cali. studying for his boards. It would have been a perfect family photo. Oh well next time.
My brother Scott and his wife Jen. I took one of them because their camera was making everything orange. I think it is a great shot and a wonderful holiday family photo.
Lillian pointing at all the pretty Christmas lights. She was having a blast.
They had these really cool looking snowflake lights on the ground. I thought they were beautiful. I have never seen anything like that before down here. I wondered if they were specially made for the temple grounds or maybe I just haven't been looking hard enough for Christmas decorations.
My favorite temple, the Salt Lake City Temple. If I could have been married here, I totally would have. But the Los Angeles Temple is beautiful too.
A great shot of the temple.
Aunt Jen and Uncle Scott showed Lillian that you could walk around on the benches, so every time we passed one she had to climb up and walk back and forth about 10 times, (thanks guys:)).

Lillian loved looking at these beautiful white sculptures of the shepard's, wisemen, and all the animals. We had a really hard time getting her to move on so we could look at the rest of the grounds. She is such an animal lover.
Mommy and Lillian in front of the Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus. In the background is the Salt Lake Temple. This was really cool. There is this huge pond with little round lights scattered all around and then you have the holy family out in the middle of this pond. It was absolutely gorgeous.
They had several different nativity scenes scattered around the grounds. These were some of my favorites. The first one I think is South American or maybe from Mexico. They didn't have signs stating where they came from, so we just guessed.
My mom thought this one was from New Zealand because of the Kiwi bird.
This one has Asian characteristics, but again not sure from which country.

On the way back to Cali. we stopped over in Saint George, again. My mom and I wanted to see the Saint George Temple. We drove by at night to see the lights, which were really pretty but nothing compared to Salt Lake. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera at the time. We went back the next morning because it was kind of hard to see the beautiful nativity scene. It was really wonderful and they had it narrated too.

Since my mom's birthday fell on the day we were leaving to drive up to Utah, we didn't get to celebrate much. So she decided that she wanted to see Red Rock Canyon Conservation Park (I think that is the name). Anyway it is just 17 miles west of Las Vegas. The weather wasn't as nice. They had some REALLY STRONG winds out there. In fact, Vegas was covered with dust. We couldn't even see it as we were driving towards it. Once we got into the canyon there was only one spot where the winds were really too strong to take pictures, but otherwise it was great. There were a lot of rain clouds around so most of the pictures don't really do it justice. There is just something about the sun on red rock that makes it look so much more pretty. So I only have a few pictures when the sun actually poked through to display these beautiful creations of our Heavenly Father.

As we were driving around to the next photo spot, the sun started shining through the clouds. It was so beautiful. Anyway, we had a great trip. Sorry there are so many pictures. I actually took a ton more, but chose only a few, which still turned turned out to be a lot. But photos are the best way to remember a vacation!
