Lillian

A week and a half ago my beautiful, fun loving daughter had another seizure due to a spike in her temperature. (It's called febrile seizures). She has had this happen a few times in the past and its not a big deal. In her case they are hereditary, my mom and I both had them. In most cases kids grow out of them, so I'm not too worried. Her fever would typically stay for a couple of days with no other symptoms and then it would be gone. However this last time was different. All last week she had a high fever and we had to stay on the motrin and tylenol. Plus her appetite wasn't like it used to be. She was hardly eating or drinking anything which is not like her at all. We thought it was a little unusual to be lasting so long but by Friday she seemed to be acting herself. Her fever was almost back to normal so we thought she was getting better. The only thing was that her appetite hadn't really returned. She was eating but not too much. Over the weekend she was quite active and she didn't feel warm to us, so we didn't give her any more meds. Well Monday came and everything changed. When she got up from her nap she was extremely whiny and clingy. She felt warm and she said she was cold when we were driving home from Grandma and Grandpa's. I continued to watch her as we put in a movie for her to watch and hoped it was just her being tired, plus she said she had fallen out of bed at my parents. The movie ended and she still wasn't acting normal, she didn't want anything to eat or drink. Plus when we took her temp. it was 102. We gave her some meds and then I told Brandon to take her to urgent care while I stayed with Preston. Thankfully there was hardly anyone there, plus because of her history and her high fever they wanted to see her right away. The Dr. looked at her and said she thought she might have Strep. So she took a culture and gave us a prescription for an antibiotic with the instructions to stop giving it to her if the culture came back negative.
The first 2 days were not fun. She had a high fever and she said her throat hurt so she wouldn't eat anything and drinking was next to impossible. We would spend forever trying to get her to drink her juice which had the medicine in it. By Wednesday, though she was starting to act a little better and she was a least drinking. Her fever was still high, though. During the night while she was sleeping we wouldn't give her anything, we would just make sure that we give her the motrin late enough to last most of the night. Wednesday morning it had been 6 hours since her motrin had worn off and her temp was almost a 103. I was beginning to get a little concerned especially when a nurse prac. called to tell us that she didn't have Strep and that it was just viral and to just give her cool things to eat. Yeah except she wouldn't eat anything, cold or otherwise. Brandon and I felt that she was getting better, except for her temp., so we didn't want to stop giving her the antibiotics. So Thursday we called her regular pediatrician and left a message to have her call us back. We finally connected with each other, Friday. She told us that it was okay to finish the antibiotics but that she was a little concerned about her having a fever for so long. She mentioned some virus that was going around with symptoms of a red sore throat and a high fever, exactly what Lillian has, and that it typically lasts 7 days. So we were just to watch her fever and try not to give her any tylenol or motrin unless it got high again. Thankfully her appetite is getting better. Thursday she had 3 helpings of mac n' cheese for lunch and that was the first day she really had a decent meal. Friday she finished the mac n' cheese that I had made earlier. In 2 days she had a least one meal, which was good, plus she was drinking a lot better. Today we got her to eat some yogurt, which is good because being on the antibiotic will kill off everything including the good bacteria in her body and she needs that, if you know what I mean. :) I am hoping that she will continue to get better this weekend. So far she doesn't have a fever and I hope it stays that way. So please keep her in your prayers that her fever will go away and she will be back to her cute, funny little self. I want her back to normal so we can enjoy all the fun things we use to. She is such a delight to me and enjoy her little spirit so much.
