Preston at our baby shower. My friend Katie was holding him. Her baby, Scott and Preston are 25 days apart. I am sure they will be little buddies!!!It has been 2 weeks since I gave birth to Preston and it is hard to believe how much time has gone by already. I thought I should better write down so thoughts and post a few pictures before I forget.
I am so glad to finally have another child. I feel so blessed by our Heavenly Father. I have to admit that this time around everything was so much easier, except for maybe the last few months when Preston was so low and causing me a lot of discomfort. But anyway the labor, which I was dreading a little because it isn't the most pleasant thing to go through. My first experience wasn't the greatest, either. Although, it could have been worse. So I am definitely NOT complaining. This time, however, the labor was only 10 hours long and I only had to push through about 3 contractions to get him out. I don't even think I was pushing for 10 minutes, it was way less than that. The only bummer was that I had to stay in the hospital longer because I had gotten an infection which gave me a fever. They broke my water, to help get me to dilate quicker. My body was totally ready to deliver, except my cervix. It was at a 7, so they decided to break my water, which is where I got the infection. Go figure!! With all the sterile stuff that they used, I got an infection. They had to put me on two different kinds of antibiotic's which I had to be on for 24 freakin hours!!! Hence the longer hospital stay. Lucky for me breaking my water and giving me a little bit of medicine to increase the strength of my contractions helped my cervix dilate the last 3cm.
Even though my fever wasn't going down, despite theirs and my best efforts, I didn't have to worry for too long. One of the nurses (thankfully not my regular one) had made a comment that if my fever didn't go down, a C-section might have to be done. I think she was just giving me the worst case scenario, because no one else ever mentioned that to me. Fortunately that wasn't necessary because a few minutes after she left I began feeling the strong urge to push. My regular nurse made me wait almost an hour, though till Preston had come down the birth canal a little more (I think they refer to it has +3, I was still a +1). She said, that way I wouldn't have to push as long. At the time I didn't like the whole idea, because it is quite hard to resist the urge to push. It was a conscious effort on my part not to, even though I really wanted the little stinker out. In the end it was all worth it because he came out so quickly. He was born at 3:18am. Weighed 7lbs 15ozs and was 19.5 inches long, although I think he may have been 20 because 4 days later he measured 20 inches. The doctor says sometimes they can get the measurements wrong. But who knows!!
Preston is such a cutie. I am so glad to have him in our family. Right now he kind of reminds me of his dad. So we will see. He has blondish hair, like his daddy did as a kid. He currently has a little jaundice, but he is looking so much better than he did a week ago. He actually lost a lot of weight, he lost 12 ounces. But again that's normal. So needless to say we have been to the doctors a few more times than normal, to check his weight or to have blood drawn to check his billy rubin count (I am sure that is not how you spell right, but oh well you know what I am talking about)!! Anyway he is doing great. His current weight is 7lbs 10 ounces and he is 20.5 inches long. We have (hopefully the last for a while) another Dr. appt. next week to check his weight and jaundice. The Dr. wants him back to his original weight. Good grief!!! The kid is such a good eater, he just is really good at getting rid of a lot of it instead of keeping it. :-D Oh well!! These are some of the latest pictures of my little cutie. Taken this week. Love to all!!

congrats, he's so sweet! I'm sorry I missed your shower, I wish I could have been there.
Congratulations on your new little boy! He is totally adorable! I never heard of getting an infection from the hospital breaking your water. That is a little scary. I'm glad you're feeling better & glad Preston is healthly & obviously quite happy.-Beth
