I decided that Lillian was getting ready to potty train, plus I am so over the 2 kids in diapers. I have actually been dreading this for sometime. We had tried back before Preston was born, but she just wasn't ready so we stopped. Now that she will be 3 in a couple of months I think she is ready, sort of. Last Monday I went and got a potty for my parent's place, so she could help her while I was at work for a few hours. I got her the same exact one, so as not to create any favorites and subsequent problems. I also had to invest in some pull-ups, and yes I know what you are thinking, they are just diapers. But when your parents house is all carpet except for the kitchen and bathrooms, you really don't want to be spending all day cleaning the carpets and leaving clean spots everywhere. We do however have real girl underwear, for her when she has gotten a little better at recognizing when she has to go.
Anyway, moving on with the whole potty training experience. I was hoping for the best, but no such luck. After giving her what we thought was the appropriate length of time after drinking something, we would take her back and have her sit on her potty. While she was sitting there, we would read a couple stories trying to get her to relax. After 15 minutes or so of no success she would grow tired and want to get up. We would think that we had already missed it and she had already gone in her pull-ups, (they usually already had pee pee in them from us missing a previous opportunity). So we would put a new pull-up on, and then wait a few more minutes to try it again and of course miss it again by five to ten minutes. This went on the whole week, which was very frustrating to us. Finally Friday came and I was really at my whits end. I then proceeded to spend around 30 or more minutes in the bathroom before she finally went. YEAH!! After that we had 3 more times over the weekend which we were successful. Today we have gotten her to do it twice, which is very encouraging. We still have lots of misses but at least I feel we are moving in the right direction. The funny thing about this whole experience is that I seem to have more success when I sing to her. Don't ask me why, I guess it is just relaxing to her. She likes Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, I am a Child of God, and The Wheels on the Bus. Most of these songs come from nursery, so here's three cheers to the primary music leader. Now if I can just figure out what the turtle and frog songs are that Lillian keeps asking for and we would be all set. Although I am getting a little tired of the same 3 songs. Anyway, I am amazed that this is working, but everytime we go into the bathroom to go potty she will actually ask me to sing a song. I actually think this is so stinking cute!! But it works!! Within minutes of me starting to sing she announces to me very proudly that she is going pee pee!!! So I am hoping sometime soon, I will have a potty trained little girl. Wish me luck. If you have any tips or secrets feel free to let me know. I will take all the help I can get.
